Horse Racing-China Style
Its weird there is a horse track 20 minutes from my house and Ive never been there, here I find out about one and I'm going all the time. Well, I now understand why people like horse racing. Its amazing. I mean these horses are groomed to perfection and are really machines each muscle toned and ready to race. The really speed down the track. In Hong Kong there are two race tracks one races on wed nights and the other on Sundays. Not bad. Its pretty hard making good bets and since I dont know much about the sport I almost always lose my money, but its definitely worth it. Additionally, its pretty cheap. The minimum bet is 10 HKD which is just over an American dollar, so even on expensive nights its not so outrageous. I really like the long races cause you can watch the horses run buy twice thats really cool. Speaking of which the track is 1500 meters and if im doing my math right thats about mile which is crazy long especially because they can run this track in under 2 minutes and for longer races 2000 meters they stride past the grand stand twice. They are fast little ponies. There is a great big grandstand which is like 6 stories tall looking out on the track but the best seats in the house are on the rail right up next to the track so you can see the horses as they come around. This past week I took Becca and it was her first time which was really great and she enjoyed it. The first race we bet on was great, I bet on 2 horses both just to place(1,2, or 3). As the horse came around the last turn both of my horses were in the top five and one was breaking late and would defiantly in the top 3 but the other was questionable. When the race was over I couldn't believe my eyes. They posted the first and second place horses and then there was like a 5 minute break before they posted that my other horse, #2 had just lost by a hair. Luckily one of the other people in our group had #1 which did place so i didn't feel too bad losing but it was still saddening. I cant wait to get back state side and bet on some full breed American stallions (I know its italian) Anywho.

next time we will both win.
ReplyDeletethe races can definitely be fun, especially when the bets are cheap - just don't get addicted. Maybe the Triple Crown will be more meaningful to you now
