Siddhartha Gautama: AKA BUDDHA
Me and Becca have gotten ourselves in a bit of situation that might be hard to get out of. We don't have class on both wed and friday. What does that mean, touring on wed and 4 day weekends. How great. This past Wednesday we decided to go see the Tian tan Buddha. This Buddha located in Hong Kong is actually the biggest Buddha in Asia, told you everything is bigger, so we thought we had to see it. We traveled most of the way by metro but after we got off we still had a 500m mountain to get up. They said "start hiking", we said "Well take the tram.". There is a wonderful cablecar, gondola ride all the way up the mountain which takes about 25 minutes. With wonderful views, it was quite the jorney, we were able to watch planes take off, see the rising sun, and chat with the canadians on our tram. Anywho, when we reached the top we still had about 300 steps to climb to get up to the first teir of the base, but boy was it worth it. The Buddha was enormous standing about 35m high and made fully of bronze. After some educational reading we learned some interesting teachings of the Buddha. Dont quote or correct me but The Buddha was suppose to emblemize all wisdom which he could bestow on all who looked for it. Additionally, he is a symbol of peace for all who seek it. You can read more at the wiki site. Anywho, We were able to visit both the Buddha and the nearby monastery. We watched part of a bell ringing ceremony and had a delicious vegetarian Chinese meal.(look out for pics) After an empty shopping trip we headed back down the mountain and back to school. Quite a journey. We will call these Posts Wacky Wednesday from now on. I wonder what I will do next week.
