Competition to the Max

So at home you are always shocked when you see two of the same store near each other, right? I once heard(herd) this story that in California there are two Starbucks on two corners of an intersection and it was supposedly very bizarre. Well I have news for you, its bizarre here. They have these things called markets. All they really are is a few streets on which every store sells the same thing. I dont understand it. Could you imagine if the whole world was like Jewelers Row. We have been to a few of these markets and they are really great for the consumer cause you can just walk one by one comparing prices and products and then go back to the one you like the best. We did just that when me and Becca bought our fish. An aside on the fish, we both bought multiple fish and tanks, water, and gravel for 70 HKD each which converts to less than 10 dollars a person. Not bad. Anywho, I couldnt believe it seeing so many fish stores but then with lights and furniture and clothes. Each market has a specialty and thats all they sell there. It seems a bit weird, I wonder why they dont each find neighborhoods lacking a flower shop or a fresh fruit stand and open up a business there. It seems like it would be much more profitable. For now we can accept these markets as a fact but ill do you one better. 7-11 is crazy. I can confidently say that from anywhere there is a 7-11 there is another 7-11 within eye sight. I mean there are 800 of them. Even more so, in malls similar stores post up right next to each other. There are two electronics stores which share a wall along with 2 medical stores on either side. I dont want to bore you but lets just say the list goes on. Some stores even have multiple stores in one mall. Its crazy. One Asian clothing store, I.T., which sells clothes similar to H & M or Urban has one two story store at one end of the mall and a fancy clothing store at the other. I dont know why its like this here but I thought it was note worthy or as my dad would say blog worthy. HOHOHO. Time here is flying and I will be too this Friday, on a trip to Shanghai. Stay tuned for posts on the highest observatory in the world.

  1. You and fish, I can't believe you bought another setup (even if it was cheap). Hope you're planning on donating them to the dorm instead of trying to transport them back home the way we do between UMD and home.

  2. More to shop, sounds good to me. Especially if the prices gets better and better.
