Hiking & Biking

The past two dats have been a whirlwind of physical activity. I finally feel at home and had a chance to stop running around and start..well... running around. Two days ago we trecked town to an area known as Central, its a metro stop, and boarded another ferry from the same terminal as the last one I wrote about. As you could imagine this was not a pleasing cite to say the least but it was now daytime the cites were beautiful and we were with a large group from the exchange program here at CityU. After the hour long ferry ride which I accidentally bought a deluxe ticket for, dont worry it was only one american dollar more, We arrived at Cheung Chau. This island is home to a small fishing community, check out the link for a geography lesson.

When arriving at the dock there were many fishing boats in the harbor and fish stands on all of the main streets. We spent the first few hours of our time on the island hiking up the island to the peak which over looked the entire island and within sight of Hong Kong Island. We hiked back down the mountain and visited a local temple. We shopped for a bit and then had a wonderful seafood dinner. I got a special deep fried grouper in a butter and cheese sauce.
After a long exhausting day the ferry ride home was relaxing and when we arrived at the student residence we realized we better get some rest because we had a full day of biking ahead of us. The following day, yesterday, we went for a bike ride through the new Territory. This is the area of Hong Kong that boarders mainland china. It was nice to see the area, a bit more spread out, and our ride along the many parks and rivers was great, in the perfect Hong Kong weather. The ride was leisurely and we got some great shots of the landscape. As an American Jew I assume that if there is a 6 hour bike tour that somewhere along the way we will be eating. Maybe a quick lunch or a break every hour but defiantly something. Here it was a bit different. After I came to the realization that there would be know stopping I stopped and got a Chineese waffle. This quasi american delight was like a waffle but in little balls all connected with a bit of a citrus taste to them, quite deliciosa!! ANYWHO we just kept riding and riding and if I do say so myself, it was really fast. On the way back everytime I got up from my seat at a stopping it hurt to sit back down. lol. It was not all lost on our last leg of the tour we saw a Kareoke dance party in the park along the river which was truly special and a wonderful cultural sight. All in all it was a fun time and some new wonderful scences were scence, alteration anybody, and becca loves bikes so all was good in the home. peace.
