Harder. Better. Faster. Stronger.
Its interesting here. They do things a bit different than home. Ive spent the past week observing my surroundings and there are a few things that stand out as noticeable differences from our lives back in the states. Maybe this will be your window into the east and some of the cultural differences. For me it has little to do with culture it mainly has to do with construction. Of course the food is different and there are lots of Buddhas but the buildings are huge. Everywhere I go am simply amazed at how much harder better faster stronger and bigger the things here are. The malls are mega Malls in America and the subway,MTR, is a 10 minute ride everywhere not 30-60 like most of new york or washington, and its pretty far. The sidewalks are wider and isles bigger. As one of my friends says "you know.. the people are so tiny but the buildings are huge" lol. Becca pointed out interestingly that while all of the buildings are large and spacious the living space at home is quite small. My room, 90 sq. ft., which I share with a roommate is pretty small. Additionally, everyone lives in the tallest appartment buildings, one after another in a seemingly endless cue. 40-50-60 stories tall with 100's of apartments in them. Its amazing. Can you thing of a word that ryhmes with mommune and has an ist at the end. Anywho, Im not exactly sure why it is this way but for me, this is an opinion, it seems like they are in competition with america for the most medals. Its funny though cause as we saw in bejing we try place, gold is good but so bronze, for them its only gold and boy is it everywhere. The mall near school is 6 stories high, has a metro station in the basement, an ice rink, a train stop, a grocery store, and more escalators than an airport. Speaking of escalators, a friend of mine saw an escalator which curved to the side and is supposedly the only one in all of asia. This drive is quite ambitious and I am in awe as I observe their modern marvels. I am shocked a bit however at the remarkable resemblace to america. Never the less, the point is I feel like a kitten in a lions den but its not so scary cause there are only other kittens and mice(cause asians are tiny) in the huge play pen.

wait till you see the escalators in bangkok international airport. i cant exactly picture the sideways escalators youre describing, but at the airport in bangkok they have these escalators that dont have stairs, they are just hills, moving slopes going up and down, almost like a kiddie roller coaster. idk if im doing a good job describing it, but youll see it for yourself soon enough!
